Tampico
A vegetable fiber obtained from the Agava Lechuilla plant which grows wild in Northern Mexico. The largest volume of this fiber is shipped from the port of Tampico, hence the name Tampico. The basic color of the fiber is creamy white, but can be dyed to any color. Water absorption quality makes it suitable for scrubbing. In the dry state, it is used extensively in floor and counter brushes. This fiber is frequently mixed or blended with other materials to vary the textures and properties.
Palmyra and Bassine
A vegetable fiber which is grown on the east coast of India. The material is obtained from the base of the fan-like leaf or stalk of the Borassu Flabellifera palm tree. The cinnamon brown colored fiber of medium stiffness is used as Palmyra. Bassine is obtained as the select and stiffer portions of the stalk which is then dyed dark brown, dressed, cut to specific sizes and graded for stiffness. The medium stiff to stiff texture combined with its water resistance and durability make it an ideal product for scrubbing and coarse sweeping.
African Bass
An extremely coarse vegetable fiber grown in West Africa and processed in the same manner as Palmyra and Bassine. The reddish brown material comes from a variety of palm type trees. Its very good durability and water resistance make it ideal for usage in street brooms.
Wire
A variety of tempered steel, stainless steel and plated steel wires are available. Round wire is used for utility and general maintenance brushes as well as scratch brushes and power brushes. Flat tempered wire is used for butcher block or heavy duty push brooms.
Horsehair
This animal hair is available from all countries in the world. The bulk of horsehair comes from Argentina with Australia, Canada and the United States also producing sizable amounts. The value of the hair is determined by its length and stiffness, with the price increasing as the length and relative stiffness increases. Consequently, tail hair, which is stiffer and coarser than mane hair, commands a higher price. This hair is thoroughly sterilized to guard against Anthrax. This soft to moderately stiff material is available in white, black or grey color and is used pure or blended with other materials in floor, counter and window brushes.
Nylon
A man-made filament produced in the United States and Europe. Available in a wide range of diameter sizes (.003" to .080"), with straight or crimped strands and a variety of lengths. Consequently, almost any texture can be duplicated. Its excellent resistance to most common chemicals and water create a multitude of desirable applications for this product. It is available in black and white (natural color) and is used pure or blended with other materials in floor brushes, counter brushes and tube brushes.
Plastic
A product produced in the laboratory with many varieties each with its own properties, creating uniqueness from other fibers. We use polypropylene base products most frequently with the selection based upon careful testing and analysis for each application. Used in a variety of floor, scrub, fender and other utility brushes.
Flagging
Flagged tip or exploded tips on synthetic ends of fiber are produced by multiple high speed blades cutting the ends of the fiber. The "fuzzy" effect is beneficial for trapping fine dust particles.
